Cooper is a tough little guy.

So, we found out Tuesday afternoon that surgery for our little man was scheduled at 10:30 am on Wednesday. Doesn't sound bad to the normal person, but any one with a little person, knows that this is not good. As of midnight, there would be no milk or food allowed. So, when little Cooper got up Wednesday morning, he could only have water until 7:30 am. We needed to be at the hospital at 8:00. Cooper did not feel like sleeping in, so he got up about 5:45. I was worried. How was Cooper going to make it to 10:30 with nothing to eat, and especially without any of mommy's milk? We got Cooper dressed and played a little bit around the house. We left about 6:30 since we had to compete with Houston morning traffic to get to the Medical Center. The surgery was at Texas Children's. Cooper did pretty well in the car. He started to get a little whiny, but Aunt Dr. J was with us and pressed Elmo's belly for the remainder of the trip. Cooper did not laugh at Elmo, but Elmo giggling, kept Cooper from crying. We did not have as much traffic as anticipated, so we got to the hospital at about 7:20ish. How was Cooper going to make it to 10:30, I thought. We checked in and had 3 hours to go. Cooper was awesome. He did not scream because he was wondering why in the heck we had not fed him. He just played with all the toys and cars that they had on the floor. He became a little partial to the Coupe that we pushed him around the waiting area in. Every once in a while he would get a little fussy, but nothing that a little love couldn't help. I was amazed. What a answer to prayer that he was fine the entire time that he waited. At about 10:40 they took him to surgery. This is the part when I am supposed to cry...but God had his hand on the situation the entire time. I was cool and calm. The Dr. came out to tell us that the surgery had gone well. Cooper, of course, had A LOT of fluid and infections in both ears. This is after being on antibiotics for the last month. Man, Cooper is tough. He put Cooper on antibiotic ear drops for the next 3 days, oral antibiotics for the next week due to the infections in both ears, and gave us some pain medication. About 15 minutes later, we got to go see out little guy. He was on his belly, crying, drooling, bleeding, tubes everywhere. This was a little nerve wrecking, but he did not cry much after we got there. It did however, take us about 2 hours to finally leave after the time we got into recovery. The nurses wanted his oxygen saturation to be between 95-100%. However, due to all the congestion that Cooper had before the surgery, his airways were a little obstructed. Trying to get a sleepy, half unconscious baby to wake up enough to cough the mucus out of the way...was nearly impossible. The nurse was even shocked at how hard it was to annoy him. She tried beating on his back, rubbing the bottoms of his feet, talking loudly to him...anything. Nothing worked. Just goes to show how hard it is to annoy Cooper. He is so easy. After about an hour and a half, Scott asked what we need to do to be able to leave. The nurse said that we could go, but just keep trying to get him to clear his airways. So, with that, we quickly got everything together and wrapped Coopy in a blanket. Right as I turned to start walking out, Cooper cleared his throat. Yes, right on his blanket...a great big ball of mucus. The nurse could not have been more excited. It was kind of funny....but wait, there is more. Cooper then decided to start throwing up the apple juice that he had been given over the past 2 hours. Right on mom's shirt and jacket. Nurse was even more excited because more mucus came up. Yeah, I would have been thrilled too if I did not have throw up all over me now. Cooper threw up one more time, even out of his nose! Man, if that doesn't clear your sinuses, I don't know what does. So, he looked like he felt much better, and we were now really on our way. Cooper slept the entire way home. When we got home, we gave Cooper some water and crackers. He kept that down for about an hour, so...Mom made him a special pancake and he had some milk. He went down about 6:30 and has been doing well ever since. The Dr. wants to see him back in a month. He thinks at that point he will put Cooper on some nasal steroids. The Dr. thinks that there might be more to his congestion...maybe allergies. Scott and I hope that this does not jeopardize his professional sports career!! On a serious note, thanks for all the prayers and food. We are blessed to have each of you!
Cooper the morning of surgery before we left the house. He is sporting mom's sunglasses :)~
Cooper at home after surgery. We got home about 3:00. Poor little man.
Mom trying to cheer Coopy up. Just doesn't feel good. This is after two vomits :(
Cooper before his bath after we got home. Look at those sad little eyes. You can tell he just doesn't feel very good. He did get to keep the outfit that he had to wear for the surgery.
Cooper getting some pancake and milk that evening. He was feeling better after the bath, but still a little out of it.
Cooper the Thursday morning, the day after surgery. He is back to his old self. As happy as can be. Yes, he thinks it is fun and funny to play with mommy's glasses.
